How to use and essential oil burner?

Posted by admin on June 28th, 2010 and filed under essential oil | 1 Comment »

When I burn essential oils in my burner, there never seems to be much of an aroma in the room. I lean over to smell it and it just smells like stale perfume. This is how I do it, i put water in the top dish, then put about 3 to 5 drops of essential oil, usually lavender in it and light the t-light. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks

I’m guessing its the oil…..some fair better with heat than others…

However….

Make sure that you fill the dish to the brim with water….you want as much water in there as possible, so that the effect is a gentle warming….if you use too little, basically what happens is a "flash burn" of the oil – and it smells bleh…

Also – wash the bowl the water goes into real well with dish detergent, very hot water and a scouring pad….old oil can stick to those (especailly if they have been heated) and make whatever you put in there stink…

Also – try walking out of the room and coming back in….quite often, our noses become habituated to a scent, and we can no longer smell it (like a little old lady wearing too much perfume) – sometimes a few breaths of fresh air snap our sense of smell right back…

I use about 4-5 drops of orange oil in my office (12×12 room) and its quite strong…so try another essential oil if those suggestions dont work…

How to make allspice essential oil?

Posted by admin on June 26th, 2010 and filed under essential oil | 1 Comment »

How do I mak my own Allspice essential oil? I have raw allspice. I don’t have or want a distiller. Any tips would be great.

There are different way to make essential oils.
For the water fraction there is:
Three types of distillation are used:

1. Water
2. Water and steam
3. Direct steam
4. Hydrodistillation
Then there is:
5. Cold Pressing or Expression:
6. Enfleurage:
7. Solvent Extraction
8. CO2 extraction
9. Florasols/Phytols

Firstly determine what you want the essential oil for. If it is for candles or oil burners then the water fraction/method might suffice. If it was for medicinal purposes then you might need a combination of water extraction and solvent extraction to capture all potential active constituents.

Solvent extraction more info:

You would need to crush the berries first.

Looking at this research paper methodology I think solvent extraction could be pretty complicated, requiring a lab:

If you just want the essential oil for candles/oil burning perhaps steam distillation might suffice.

What’s a really good beneficial essential oil?

Posted by admin on June 22nd, 2010 and filed under essential oil | 3 Comments »

I’m looking for a really good essential oil. That is really beneficial, but i have a really strong nose and cant spell strong stuff or i’ll choke on the smell. Please and Thank You. :D

What benefits are you wanting to reap from it? Maybe you should dilute the essential oil mixture if you can’t stand the smell. Me personally I have a regular ole soapstone candle oil diffuser, I put about 1/4 cup of water and 10 drops of 100% pure essential oil, but I don’t have a sensitive nose at all. I use Roman chamomile or Lavender for relaxing, Lemongrass for energy, peppermint for headaches and studying, and jasmine for an everyday use.

How would one go about infusing an essential oil into an herb?

Posted by admin on June 19th, 2010 and filed under essential oil | 1 Comment »

Hi, i’m trying to infuse my peppermint essential oil into my mullein. I have one ounce of the mullein. How do i go about infusing the oil into the mullein so that when the mullein is burned it produces the peppermint fragrence. Also, how much is needed so that when any part of the ounce is burned, the fragrence is produced. moreover, how many mL should be used in an ounce.

I don’t think you should be playing with that kind of stuff. Consult a chemist.

How to add essential oil to a bottle of lotion?

Posted by admin on June 16th, 2010 and filed under essential oil | 2 Comments »

I bought a 16 oz bottle of lotion. It says you can add 1 tsp of essential oil to 16 oz of the lotion. How do I add it? Just pour 1 tsp essential oil into the bottle? Wouldn’t the oil just float on the top? Surely I don’t want to empty the bottle and mix the two then put back to the bottle.

pour it in and shake it. it should all meld together, especially after a few days.. Another way, which I prefer, is to simply mix in your palm a drop of two of the oil with your lotion before applying it. This way, you have the effect of the smell of the pure oil.

which essential oil can reduce my dark spot, scars and highly pigmented area completely?

Posted by admin on June 14th, 2010 and filed under essential oil | 2 Comments »

using coconut oil and olive oil feel and make me greasy, though i do a good massage.tell me the essential oil’s name and its carrier oil.

Essential oils that have been used by skin specialists to clear up acne are lavender, berganmot, clove, rosewood so they can be safely used to get rid of dark spots, scars and pigmentations They are strong so need diluting with a carrier oil. Some carrier oils are grapeseed, sweet almond, olive and canola.

Add 15 – 30 drops of an essential oil (choose one or a combination of oils), but do not use more than 30 drops per 30 ml (1 oz) of the carrier oil. Many essential oils used neat will irritate or even burn your skin.
You will get the most effective results if you make massage quite vigorous. The massaging friction can totally rid skin of them. As skin (and hands) have to adjust, day by day build up to vigorous. if you can do a daily vigorous massage for 30min(not necessarily in one session) you will get dramatic diminishing. Treatment completely rid my skin of every single one and I now have a totally healthy and near flawless.skin.
.
Oils are perfect moisturizers so do not remove. Simply splash face with water and dab dry with tissues. I have primarily used olive oil and as most of it gets quickly absorbed into skin I simply splash face with water and dab dry with tissues. It does not leave my skin oily or greasy.
