what is it in candles that puts off the black soot?

Posted by admin on July 14th, 2010 and filed under candles | 7 Comments »

We have a wall decoration for many tea candles that leaves black soot on the wall when candles are burned. Is there a type of candle that doesn’t leave marks on the wall?

It’s the burning of the wick. Pull it out from the wall to stop the staining of the wall. The only type of candle that won’t do that is a battery operated one.

can i make a candle burning light fixture outof an electrified one? Can i just change out bulbs for candles.?

Posted by admin on July 12th, 2010 and filed under candles | 4 Comments »

can a electric light be changed to burn candles with a special adapter to put into the electric socket to hold the candle and possibly catch some wax as it burns. i had read about such an invention and now can’t find it. please help me if you can.

sure if you want to burn your house down.what you want is a "lava Lamp"style design and you want to use a bulb no bigger than 20 watts.the bulb cannot contact the actual candle base you need a spacer.you can even buy a lave lamp with a removeable top and empty it out and simply put your candle in the lamp but, make sure the candle is no bigger than the lamp part of the lava lamp.

How to get rid of the oils from candles that seeped into my pourous wood top bedside table?

Posted by admin on July 8th, 2010 and filed under candles | 3 Comments »

My niece set her blue colored candles on my pourous topped table without anything underneath them. Now I have blue colored candle stain on my table top. And it’s a major mess. Smells good though…LOL

Is there a way to get this out? Or am I out of luck? Thank you…

you can try this but no guarantees. take a towel that you care NOTHING about and a hot iron place the towel over the waxy stain and melt the wax into the towel this will absorb a great deal of the wax. there is a possibility it may take some or all of the colors out with it. If it is porous and your not afraid to sand it just a little with 160 grit paper PROVIDING IT IS NOT A VERY EXPENSIVE ANTIQUE PIECE. THEN USE SOMETHING LIKE Old English scratch remover on the top.
if you have any more questions holler back at me and I will try to help you out more if possible

How are candles made and what is the best way to burn them safely?

How are candles made?

What is the best way to burn them?

What is the best way to burn them safely within your house?

Where can I buy candles?

What are your favorite scents?

Any answers would be helpful! Thanks!!!??!??

You can buy paraffin wax in bags. They kind of look like a packet of wax Minstrels. And you can get whatever colours you like. You just melt them in a pot you don’t mind messing up forever.

Best way to burn a candle is to make sure it has a wick.

Well ventilated room and not sitting on plastic, like a TV! As it will sink in. Place the candle on a candle hot plate or a candle holder designed to take the heat. I use a bathroom tile made of clay, but I don’t recommend it as what anyone else should use, but works a treat. Have a fire extinguisher in the home. Don’t fall asleep and don’t drink :o )

You can buy candles anywhere!! Supermarket, home store, arts & crafts store, eBay…

Mines Cinnamon or vanilla

How long do floating candles last?

Posted by admin on July 3rd, 2010 and filed under candles | 1 Comment »

I’ll be getting married in a couple of years, and I was just thinking about centerpieces (I’m thinking way ahead I guess), and I thought that dishes with floating candles would make nice centerpieces for the tables. I just want to know if they would keep burning throughout the whole reception or if they would go out. If you’ve ever used floating candles, please let me know an estimate of how long a floating candle lasts.

I used a couple in a bathtub. Heck, they were only about 50 cents-but I think they lasted a long while-several hours, actually. I’d buy plenty just in case you run out since they’re so cheap.

How do I make soap, wax or gel candles or other similar crafts?

Posted by admin on June 30th, 2010 and filed under candles | 6 Comments »

I have been searching on the internet for how to make candles or soap but it is not very clear what ingredients (wax, gel wax, glycerin) I need to use and where I can get them.

Has anyone made candles or soap before?? I need to hear from someone who knows exactly where I can get the ingredients and a clear method for making them.

Help!

Candle making is a good hobby to have I started by buying a basic kit from a craft shop, and gradually expanded from there .
Another person (CHRYSTIAN ) has listed some sites for you to visit if you don’t have any craft shops in your town, but start with a basic kit with full instructions on melting and various equipment to use.Instructions are important as you can get things wrong if the mixture is wrong for example burning with black smoke or burning too quick also there is different thickness of wicks depending on the candle you want to make.and much more so a book of some sort is a good start, It’s realy quite easy with the proper tools etc.
I hope you find a shop or site to purchase the materials good luck.
