what are the best candles to burn?

Posted by admin on March 30th, 2010 and filed under candles | 2 Comments »

i need a candle that not only smells good while it is NOT burning, but makes the entire house smell good while it IS burning. I have a 20-30ft. open staircase, so it needs to be a very strong but light sented candle. I do have partylite candles, walmart brand candles, and none seem to be working the way i want them to. I am also very concious about leaving them burn too long. a few yrs ago, we lived in a apt. complex and the idot next door to us let her kids play around a candle, the candle got knocked over and onto a electrical outlet and well, the fire started there and caught our place too. So, i need something that smells up the house quickly. Thanks so much!

Sure you don’t want to use incense instead? You get a much stronger scent from incense than from a scented candle.

If you insist on a candle, there’s some in the grocery store these days, I can’t remember the brand name on them, but they have Thomas Kincade pictures wrapped around a fat little glass candle. The scent is pretty strong, and being in glass, you don’t have to worry about leaving them unattended unless you have pets.

How to keep aromatherapy pillow scent from fading?

Posted by admin on March 30th, 2010 and filed under aromatherapy | 2 Comments »

So I learned the basic method for making aromatherapy pillows (rice and essential oils in cloth bag) but I’ve discovered that the scent is fading after just two or three heat-ups. Is there any way to prevent this? I eventually want to sell these–but obviously it’s not smart or good business to sell stuff that won’t work after just a few days.

I’m really not sure about how to prevent this since the only downfall of essentail oils (at least in my book) is that the aroma fades.

I’ve never tried any of these, so I don’t know how they’d work, but here are my suggestions:

Add some of the whole herb to the pillows. Add the essential oils to the herb first, and let it sit in a closed container for a few days and then add the rice. I’m not sure how many more heat-ups this would last for, or if there would be some problem with the herbs (mold? although, it’s dry so that probably wouldn’t be a problem) in the pillow, but if there were herbs inside, this would help "fix" the oils, and also when a person is using the pillow, the herbs would get slightly crushed, releasing their own scent. I use lavender (whole herb, without e.o.s) in mesh bags in my drawers and a little squeeze of the bags helps refresh the scent. The ones I’m using now are about two years old, and they still smell nice, but I’m not using them with heat.

Add orris root powder. Again, you’d add the oils to the powder and let it sit, then add the rice. This is used in potpouri as a fixitive, so it might work for your pillows. It has a slight flowery smell, but you could make it work with your oil blends. You could even try the whole herb, plus the orris root powder with the oils before adding the rice.

Sell your pillows with a little bottle of refresher oil. You can find small vials online. This would work well, but I don’t think it would be cost effective for you. I just wanted to add it in as something to think about.

I hope one of those works for you. It makes me really happy to hear about people making natural products and actually caring whether or not they work!

What essential oils are best to burn in a classroom setting?

Posted by admin on March 30th, 2010 and filed under essential oils | 5 Comments »

I had a friend burn essential oils in an electric burner and the class smelled like lollies. I’m hoping to a) increase alertness, productivity, harmony, quietness (haha) and b) a nice smelling room.
What are the best combinations of oils. And has anyone used them before with a positive result?
Thanks.
I know essential oils need to be used in moderation and I understand the strength in their properties. I’m asking for simple ‘recipes’. I know this can be beneficial for a classroom but I have been unable to find information regarding a classroom online.

If it where me, I would use Frankencsense Rosewood, Clove, or Oregano Oils. All of these are very safe. I would NOT!!! I repeat: NOT! Use lavender or Tea Tree oils. The reason? Allergies! Some people are extremely sensitive to these 2 plants. And if you have any students with allergies you run the risk of allergic reaction including anaphylactic shock! And this type of shock can be FATAL! But Oregano, Thyme, and the others I mentioned are very safe. Oregano Oil can even be ingested with 0 side effects. It is a very powerful anti-microbial oil. It can kill any bacteria, parasite, virus, including (HIV and hepititis). And it also can help with mental function. Oregano Oil would be my pick for sure! Renegade scientists did a study on Oregano Oil and found out it can easily destroy MRSA. Mrsa is a mutated version of the Staph Bacteria. And Mrsa is resistant to nearly all anti-biotics. So, obviously it could help your students in more ways than one! It could possibly help keep them from getting sick from pathogens in the air!

What kind of perfumes do guys find sexy? For a special night which one should I use?

Posted by admin on March 30th, 2010 and filed under perfumes | 5 Comments »

I love floral oriental perfumes the most, but some perfumes are really heavy. I used Lolita, Magnetism, Angel, Floral by Paul Smith and Victoria’s Secret Sweet Craving before. They were all sweet. For a special night I want to use one of these and would it also be nice to put on some coconut moisturizer?

You and I have very similar fragrance taste! I wouldn’t mix the coconut body lotion – I’d wear a matching lotion or just an unscented one. Nothing is worse than competing scents! You might want to try Stella McCartney Stella – it’s gorgeous, very floral. A couple other romantic florals (less oriental) are Kai and Child. Oh, by the way – I read a study that said men get most turned on my the scents of chocolate and pumpkin (yes, seriously) – Angel has both of those in it, in small amounts, so I’d guess most men would like Angel. My husband LOVES it. His 2nd favorite is Stella.

What other fragrance colognes have a powdery aroma other than Chantilly cologne?

I like a powdery fragrance, but there has to be some other colognes that have this aroma. Anyone that can help?

Try Lolita Lempicka…

This is very sweet and powdery, but not intense sweet. Powder with a little kick. It’s actually one of the most unique perfumes I’ve ever worn and I get a lot of compliments on it.

How do you make fragrance oils for warmers/burners?

Posted by admin on March 30th, 2010 and filed under fragrance oils | 3 Comments »

I’ve seen tons of places online selling fragrance oils that they apparently make themselves, but I can’t seem to find any recipes anywhere. I’m just a do-it-myself kind of person and I think it could be a cool hobby.

oils used in warmers & burners are diluted essential oils. Essential oils can be extracted through distillation, but it takes a great deal of plant matter to do this. Petals from hundreds of roses for a few drops of oil, a million jasmine flowers for the same. there is a book called the complete book of essential oils & aromatherapy by Valerie Worwood, that details out the process
the book is available here:

http://www.amazon.com/Complete-Book-Essential-Oils-Aromatherapy/dp/0931432820/sr=1-1/qid=1171091315/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/102-0951955-9864967?ie=UTF8&s=books

it’s very time consuming, and expensive, but it is possible.

Splattered fragrance oil on a wood table?

Posted by admin on March 30th, 2010 and filed under fragrance oil | 2 Comments »

I dropped one of those wick fragrance oil bottles and splattered the oil all over a finished, dark wood table. I can’t get those spots off! Suggestions, please! Thanks.

Sand and restain is the only option.
